About The Author: Brigadier-General Sir Henry Montgomery Lawrence KCB (1806–1857) was a British military officer, surveyor, administrator, and statesman in British India. He is known for leading a group of administrators in the Punjab called Henry Lawrence's "Young Men," founding the Lawrence Military Asylums, and dying at the Siege of Lucknow during the Indian Rebellion. Lawrence joined the Bengal Artillery in 1822 and served in the First Anglo-Burmese War. He survived severe illness during the expedition. Lawrence authored books such as "Adventures of an Officer in the Service of Runjeet Singh" (1845) and "Essays, Military and Political, Written in India" (1859).
